Dear readers,

Welcome to the fifth and last newsletter of the Demos@Work project!

Our vision was to facilitate European-wide discussion between elected officials and civil society organisations via the use of ICT on the harmful effects of smoking, an emerging policy issue that has a potential impact on all countries within the European Union.

The focus of Demos@Work is mainly on citizens and their representatives. We created, with the support of the EU, an online collaborative platform (www.demosatwork.org) that aimed to facilitate the dialogue between regional/national-level elected representatives, the European parliament and citizens on health issues. It uses and tests forms and methods of civic engagement. This was achieved by configuring and putting into trial a secure, mobile environment through which elected representatives are able not only to engage with citizens on policy issues, but also to communicate and collaborate with their peers.

Your active involvement, feedback and experiences were and still are valuable. Therefore, we would like to thank you for your support and your participation.

Demos@Work final newsletter features the last updates on our activities.

Thank you for your interest in our work!

The Lithuanian and Catalonian interactive portals are now online!

The Demos@Work team proudly announces the official launch of the two interactive online portals of Demos@Work.  Now citizens and all interested stakeholders can cast their views on smoking and its effects! The portals are launched by the Parliament of Lithuania (SEIIMAS) and the Regional Parliament of Catalonia in the framework of the EU co-funded project Demos@Work. They serve for an active and open dialogue between members of the respective Parliaments, the European Parliament, citizens and other stakeholders (doctors, representatives from hospitals, NGOs etc.) where they are able to express their opinion, cast their views and debated on smoking and its effects. Now citizens and all interested parties such as health-care professionals, NGOs representatives etc., are able to voice their opinion and address their representatives on this significant health-policy issue.  All feedback collected will be directly communicated to the specific services of the European Commission.
